Starting this Keto lifestyle is the greatest “DIET” I have decided to convert too. Most of the people I told looked at me like I was crazy and I didn’t know what I was talking about. What do mean you are not eating bread? Or sugar? Or pasta? Or anything with flour? I’ll admit, when I started this endeavor it seemed impossible to eliminate so many long time staples of the food I love. That skepticism and uncertainty didn’t deter me, I was ready to break the mold from the traditional foods I grew up eating and was feeding my family.
Sometimes one of the biggest hurdles to losing weight is actually believing you can lose the weight. It’s hard to commit to change, especially is you’ve failed in the past. It almost seems easier to tell yourself “I’m happy with my size” or “I don’t mind being heavy” or my personal favorite “It’s okay, my husband likes me this way”. Maybe some people honestly feel this way but I submit they are just afraid to commit to change and afraid to fall off the wagon a month later. It’s a type of walk of shame when you share a meal with these same friends you told and a month earlier and you’re ordering chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. Does anyone really want to be asked “hey how’s your diet going”?
Still, I respect the person who is confident in their body no matter the shape, but do they really love the way they feel? Sluggish, grouchy, moody and with no energy. Plus any other underlying diseases or issues over weight can being.
Perhaps they do, but only because they don’t know what if feels like to have amazing energy that comes with healthy eating and moving more. They don’t remember what it feels like to wake up in the morning and not just want to go sit on the couch and do nothing all day. They don’t remember what if feels like when your body feels good. They have adapted to living with a sluggish body. My book teaches you to get the sludge out of your system and get you eating good clean food that will fuel your mind, body and soul. Over the past twelve years I have gone up and down on my weight. The last nine years I have had 6 pregnancies, two ending in preterm labor. I have four amazing kids that keep me moving and keep me busy. I have probably suffered from some Post partem depression and I have been that person who did not and could not leave the house or get off the couch. I have cried, I have screamed,I have hated myself after looking in the mirror and not recognizing myself and not know what or where I was going or doing. I have been the person standing in my closet angry because nothing fits or looks good. I am also the person that knows that no else can change me unless I do something about it.
After a decade of knowing what I needed to do to lose weight and doing it time and time again by busting my ass doing 45 to 1 hour workouts with Insanity and P90 x etc., I realized it doesn’t have to be that hard. So, this time around I came full circle and said enough is enough I need to change the way I think about food. Something I had never really done. I mean I would probably starve myself and eat like a bird but still splurge on sodas and cake and candy and bread and pasta any chance I got. Not only because I wanted to but because my body was starving for it. So, I needed to learn to eat again and to feed my body to a point where it would not be starving and desperate for those foods. As a mom of 4 it is difficult to find the time to eat or cook and when we do, it’s hard to make everyone happy. So, most of the times we end up just eating whatever is around and easy. This book is for everyone to have on hand 25 easy fun go to recipes, so we don’t have to go for the pizza or the easy to make pour in boiling water pasta.
I sit here and urge that if you have had any of these problems to change the way you think about food and take a look at what we do and why we do it. These recipes will not only help you lose weight they will help you nourish your body and fuel it to the point to where the craving is no longer a problem and uncontrollable. Living a low carb life has not only helped me lose weight without even working out but it has helped my digestion, my skin, my hungriness is non-existent. It has helped my sex life, and stopped my cravings for a late-night ice cream run. I know people that have complete control of their health and Diabetes is no longer, people who have gone from obese to a size 4. This is possible and it’s all possible with changing your way of think of food. Don’t let food have a hold of your body and the way you feel.

What is Ketogenic or to be in Ketosis?
To be in Ketosis is to be in a metabolic state where your body begins to burn fat rather than cabs for energy. When you limit your body of carbohydrates, your liver begins to make ketones out of the fat stores you have for energy instead of carbs and sugar. When you start a Keto or low carb diet you starve your body of its dependence on glucose for energy and this can really speed up you weight loss. Your body naturally begins to burn fat.
Being in Ketosis or on a Keto, low carb diet also helps with decreasing your appetite because of the lack of glucose your body is dependent on. One of the main reasons people struggle to lose weight and are always hungry and have cravings is because when we eat carbs and sugar our body is dependent on them so when it starts to deplete the carbs and energy from those foods it starts to ask for more and more which is why we get cravings. So, when we are used to having lots of those foods are body naturally wants more.
With the Keto diet, you will notice yourself having more energy. Why does this happen? We are now using a fuel (Fat) that burns at a slower rate therefore maximizing your energy throughout the day. You will no longer have those sugar crashes or those cravings that come from a high carb, high sugar diet.
Another great benefit from a ketogenic diet will be minimizing Inflammation, the reason this will happen is because of the intake of healthy fats and oils you will consume. These healthy fats will help to improve your omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9 ratio which is will decrease the amount of inflammation you experience though out your body.
One side effect of beginning on a Ketogenic diet will be the withdrawal process your body will fall into after not eating the carbs and sugar it is used to. This is called the Keto flu. Because you have switched fuel source as your body adjusts you will feel tired or have a headache and feel as though you are coming down with something. You are just transitioning from Glucose energy to Fat energy. Don’t get scared, push through, the headache it will be gone in a couple of days. Take a Tylenol to help and eat a keto friendly meal and of course drink lots of water.
